Here in the U.S. we've had another school shooting, and we've lost 22 human lives this week. We're based in the U.S. and so this hits home for us. We understand that not all of you are. Thank you for taking a minute with us while we get off the marketing train for a minute to just be.
As you woke up this morning maybe you're feeling confused. Maybe furious and rageful. How is it that "we the people" are being held captive by a political system that won't seek at least a moderate common sense approach to reforming laws that could make a genuine difference. Every emotion has wisdom. Every emotion can belong.
Maybe you're feeling depressed or maybe you're numb today. Maybe in spite of all this, something in your life, some beauty, some graceful thing gives you reason to smile and enjoy a bit of reprieve from what can be a challenging life.
Across this tiny blue dot, both violence and peacefulness are co-occuring on every scale imaginable. Even within us we have violence against ourselves and others in our judgements and evaluations — so too all of us have the capacity for kindness, true active empathy, and peace.
Will you choose some peace with me today? Will you hold someone you love and let them know how dear they are to you? Will you attempt an apology where one is due? Will you actively share your need for change — now— with your representative? Will you notice something positive about the colleague that annoys you? Will you release some old resentment it's time to let go of? Will you ask your inner critic to come have tea with you so you can reduce being at odds with yourself? Will you imagine with me, what your opponents might be experiencing, and what fears and pains are woven into their lives?
Words aren't enough. Please choose peace with me.
Truly yours, Matthew |
