Today’s newsletter is brought to you by Life Kit producer Clare Marie Schneider.
There are two weeks left in January. Have you already given up on your New Year's resolutions?
If you feel like you've lost momentum, it's not too late to get back on track. To inspire you, we've reached out to a few of our Life Kit contributors to ask them about the goals they've set for themselves in 2024 -- and their strategies to reach them.
We hope their responses inspire you to recommit to your New Year’s resolutions as you head into February.
My 2024 goal: Get back into making stuff — picking up creative hobbies that bring me joy and fill my proverbial cup. I'm focusing on small and accessible projects (for example, I recently made my own stickers to decorate my journal) so that I'll actually do it.
How I will stick to it: It's easy to bite off more than you can chew with creative projects, which often leads to neglecting them and then feeling guilty. With that in mind, I'm lowering the barrier to entry, along with my own expectations, by centering the pleasure and delight that comes with making anything, even something modest.
My 2024 goal: To write my first book. I became a millionaire at 24. Building a team and scaling from four to 4,000 daily orders was thrilling yet chaotic. This year, I'm bringing back the goals I had before the virality: to travel, write and help people.
How I will stick to it:
Audit: Take an honest look at how I spend my time.
Optimize: Cut out activities that don't serve me.
Time block: Make 2-hour blocks of time to write, three times a week.
Show up and write.
Host a book retreat: Share my writing with 2 to 3 peers, ask for feedback and clarify points that need more explanation.
Let it go: Remind myself that the book doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to start.
My 2024 goal: Try and get good consistent sleep -- and find ways to be super gentle with myself after a night of poor sleep.
How I will stick to it: Taking really good care of myself: eating well (that's why I made a Life Kit episode about salads!), exercising, being outside and spending time with friends and family.
My 2024 goal: I will give myself permission to feel happiness.
How I will stick to it: Taking an extra moment to appreciate that a planted seed brought me to this moment, even if what blossomed is completely unexpected.
