I was a little old to be in the thick of Abercrombie & Fitch madness, but the Netflix documentary White Hot: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch will take you right back to the story of a retailer that made one very, very specific (and very white) look its "brand" and eventually got into a series of legal and public relations messes as a result. Only some of the movies on the Ringer's list of "50 Best Rom-Coms" are actually romantic comedies, but the list got lots of attention this week and does speak to what some people consider to be romantic comedies, so if you follow the constant back-and-forth about the state of the genre, maybe check it out? If you're a Watergate enthusiast (which I am) and you followed the Slate podcast Slow Burn, you might check out the Starz series Gaslit, which debuts on Sunday night. I'm not sure it's entirely successful, but I did kind of like Julia Roberts' spin on Martha Mitchell. I was joined by Roxana Hadadi, Christina Tucker, and Kathryn VanArendonk to talk about the new version of the old version of Law & Order and, candidly, why it exists. Glen talked to Tasha Robinson about Our Flag Means Death. Glen also took on Moon Knight, with another assist from Roxana Hadadi and one from Sam Yellowhorse Kesler. Stephen and Aisha talked to Cyrena Touros about the film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. My newsletter essay about The Great Pottery Throw Down is now available online. We also presented an encore of our episode about it this week. Glen wrote a review of the film The Northman. Stephen wrote up a Tiny Desk (Home) Concert from S. Carey. I joined business reporter Bobby Allyn for a tag-team approach to chatting up Ari Shapiro on All Things Considered about the recent run of CEO shows: The Dropout, WeCrashed and Super Pumped. Aisha reviewed the upcoming HBO show The Baby, which starts Sunday. |
