Why We're Changing Frequency Our founders, Anum and Vivian, jumped into full-time entrepreneurship over three years ago. We believed deeply (and still do) in a news ecosystem that prioritizes the reader experience. What started as an AI startup ultimately evolved into a content experience, and we are so proud of the work we produce today.
And while we're blessed to have had support from family, friends, and early-stage investors, we've also faced many challenges in follow-on fundraising. The statistics on how rarely female founders, especially of color and in the media industry, are funded are painfully true. We wish they weren't.
After three years of putting our financial, mental, and physical well-being on hold, we've decided to invest in ourselves. Switching to a weekly newsletter allows us to dedicate time to our careers outside of Below the Fold, ultimately serving ourselves, our readers, and our supporters better.
We know that this decision will only help Below the Fold grow to new heights by taking control of its destiny through our own earnings.
So, What's Changing? First, we can promise that the quality of our content will continue. Each Friday edition will feature two fully summarized stories, similar to what you see today. In addition, we: - Added a "Bytes" section, providing just a sentence or two on shorter stories found below the fold.
- Provide one meaningful action a week, helping you continue to actively participate in improving, supporting, or learning about the issues we cover.
- Extended the resource center, providing transparency into our wide range of sourcing, the time you're saving with our summaries, and the depth of research we conduct to provide a broad, honest picture.
