A new NPR podcast, NPR’s Book of the Day, has arrived with daily bite-size author interviews just in time for Banned Books Week, an annual national effort bringing awareness to reading freedom.This year’s National Book Festival just wrapped up. And of course, with the turn of a new season comes the joy of fresh reads and the perhaps more lukewarm-welcomed required reading. Ah, I can almost feel the pages turning under my hand. When we were stuck within our own four walls for months at a time, we could swiftly escape into other countries, galaxies, dimensions and ways of thinking with the turn of a page. When we need to turn off both our overactive minds and our screens, the pages of a book are always there to hold us. No matter how you consume them, they are friends and teachers, truth-tellers and bond-makers.
