In the mid-1800s, the ole Pythagorean Diet - named after Ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras - became known as vegetarianism. People had been enjoying plates of veggies, fruits, nuts, and plant-based foods in India long before that (since the 5th Century BCE), and then the US and UK caught on to vegetarianism in the 1960s, inspiring the North American Vegetarian Society to create the international celebration.
Vegetarianism can lead to better heart health, stronger bones, and it can lower your blood pressure (no promises whether that's when you're in traffic or not). Whether you're celebrating the day, learning more about it, or admiring from a distance, here's a collection of some plant life emails we thought you'd like. |
