⭐ I did it. ⭐ I kept my New Year’s resolution for 2023. After listening to an episode on how to split domestic chores with your partner, I was inspired to follow this tip: if your partner is in charge of a household task, let them do it. Resist the urge to micromanage.
All year, I heeded that advice. If my husband was making dinner, I shushed that voice inside my head that said, “Tell him to use a bigger pan!” or “That garlic isn’t minced enough!” And it worked. Instead of criticizing his every move, I just let him do his thing -- and the process was much less stressful for the both of us.
If you’re looking for a New Year’s resolution that you can stick to this year, explore Life Kit’s New Year’s Resolution Planner. It has a fresh new mix of ideas to help you make bold moves in 2024.
Scrolling through the list, I want to get better at saying “no” this year. As a people pleaser, that feels so hard, but I know it will be good for me in the long run. I especially want to narrow in on this advice: pause before you say yes. It can buy you time to assess your time and energy, which I don’t have a ton of as a new mom!
Now it’s your turn. Which New Year’s resolution will you choose this year? Give our New Year’s Resolution Planner a scroll -- then email lifekit@npr.org and tell us what you chose and why. We may feature your response in next week’s newsletter.
We can’t wait to hear from you -- and Happy New Year!
