OPEC Plus ignores Biden's plea to boost oil production |
- Wednesday, the OPEC Plus alliance, led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, agreed to cut oil production by 2 million barrels a day — about 2 percent of global production — starting in November, to boost sagging global prices. [NYT / Stanley Reed]
- The cuts could further strain ties between the US and Saudi Arabia, where President Joe Biden traveled this summer to urge the bloc of oil-exporting countries to raise output to bring down soaring energy prices. [NPR / Jackie Northam]
