Commentary
Senior foodtech analyst Alex Frederick weighs in on the news that Avant Meats has raised $10.8 million in Series A funding led by S2G Ventures:

"Avant Meats' most recent round will help it continue the development of cultivated fish for food, skin care, and skin care products.

"Fish is an increasingly prevalent subject of focus in alt-proteins due to challenges with traditional fish sourcing, including dwindling fisheries and health considerations such as heavy metals & microplastics.

"Hong Kong-based Avant Meats is the first cultivated meat company in China. The company is building R&D and pilot manufacturing facilities in Singapore.

"It partnered with the Bioprocessing Technology Institute under Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) to scale production and commercialize cultivated protein.

"Singapore has provided foodtech companies with resources and a favorable regulatory environment, attracting an increasing number of alt-protein startups."
