Hello all– Greetings from Spokane, Washington! I'm here for the first time for the PRSA travel conference. While I'm not normally the biggest conference person, it's kind of lovely seeing everybody in real life and putting faces to names. I'll be speaking on a panel tomorrow about the future of travel, so hopefully I don't put my foot in my mouth too many times. While it's still a little bit brisk up here, our lead feature this week takes us to warmer climes. Andrew Kirell has written about a new all-inclusive in Cancun for our Room Key series on exciting new hotels. He argues that if you're an all-inclusive-type traveler who cares more about food than booze, then this is the spot for you. Malcolm Jones traveled Ireland for a few weeks recently and pampered himself for a few days at the country's legendary Ashford Castle, an experience he shares with us in all its heavenly detail here. And, finally, for the booze-swilling history lover in many of you, Erin Zaleski has written about the little known Paris bar where the likes of Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and Sartre hung out, and where Capote and de Beauvoir got into a bit of a tiff! –William O'Connor, Travel Editor |

OMG I Want to Rent This House! |
Villa Balbiano, Lake Como, Italy (Airbnb): If you're just coming off of a screening of House of Gucci, then we have an important announcement for you: This is not a movie still. While this property did make its debut on the proverbial red carpet last year, this photo is of a real-life villa on Lake Como that is ready and waiting for you to don your best Italian couture and move on in… at least for a little while. Whether you arrive by boat or by car, your week (or more…we would never presume to judge your life) of luxury on the western shore of Lake Como will begin by making your way through at least one of the beautiful gardens to arrive at the now-Hollywood famous Italian villa. If you choose to make your garden approach as if you were walking your very own red carpet, that's up to you. Book Your Stay: Villa Balbiano, Lake Como, Italy $1,400/night via Airbnb Don't miss previous OMG, I Want to Rent This House posts, which spotlight the most spectacular and unique homes that you can actually stay in. Few books have opened with truer words than the latest selection for our Just Booked series (on beautiful coffee table books) than Assouline's Miami Beach. "Miami's time is now," it boldly declares—and boy is that the case. Miami Beach is the current destination of choice for the New York and California exodus, and its warm weather has given residents (and visitors) a degree of sanity during COVID that is the envy of all. And in an era where a photogenic setting is, well, everything, it's hard to beat the pastel wonders of Miami Beach. Don't miss our other selections for our series on gorgeous travel-related coffee table books, Just Booked. |
